Geometry Considerations

The molecular and electronic geometries are the same if there are no lone pairs around the central atom.

Instances in which the two are different occur when there are lone pairs around the central atom as in this.

When dealing with electronic geometry, count electron groups and call it what it is based on that number only. Here's an example.

Remember the electronic geometry is the most stable arrangement.

For the molecular geometry, count the groups of electrons and find that category. Then count the lone pairs and further categorize it (bent, etc.).In the last case, there are 4 groups. There is 1 lone pair, so the geometry is trigonal planar.
